There are trendy words that float around the "health and wellness" space - like holistic, grounded, self-care, love and light..... and so many more! Words or labels can mean anything - but it is the action behind them that makes all the difference.
Coaches are people who help a person identify their goals and then help them reach the goals. A health coach is therefore someone who works with people to achieve their health goals. So, what is so different about a holistic health coach? A health coach may work with someone with one specific aspect of health, for example, if you were wanting to move to eating a plant-based diet, you would get a coach to specifically help you with that. Whereas a holistic health coach looks at things in a bit of a different way..
Holistic = Emphasising the importance of the whole and the interdependence of its parts.
As a holistic health coach, I look at all of the factors underlying and affecting the 'problem' that someone presents with. It really is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle - and when all the pieces come together, something just clicks. For example, a client may come to me feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, feeling stuck and with no time to herself. There are many factors that could be influencing this, for example, poor quality sleep, lack of boundaries, nutrition related deficiencies, environmental factors, blockages in the energy systems and many more. A holistic approach takes into consideration all of these factors - mental, physical, emotional and spiritual - and together, we make a plan to reach the goal/s.
I love the fact that more and more people are starting to truly care about their own health and how they can genuinely improve it. But, along with that can come the complete overwhelm of the "how" do I do this, and "who" do I partner with to make this happen? There can be so many questions that you end up spiralling and not taking any action...
How do I change habits that feel so ingrained?
How come I don't choose the healthier option?
Why do I keep saying yes to things that I don't want to do?
Why do I feel so stuck?
I've been to so many health practitioners, why don't I feel any better?
While I don't believe that one person or health professional can solve all of your problems, any approach that is holistic in nature may get to the root cause of things a bit faster than a surface approach. Getting deep into the beliefs and patterns that are resulting in finding change difficult will be addressed with a holistic health coach. I support clients to get comfortable with the uncomfortable - this is where transformation happens.
A holistic health coach is someone to hold you accountable as you move forward towards your goals. They are an excellent complementary service to many other health professionals such as doctors, physiotherapists, personal trainers and others depending on your individual goals.
In my practice, my special interest areas include holistic stress management, energy healing, sleep and anxiety. If you have any questions about this article, please reach out! To find out more about me click HERE.
